Cultural Elements in Art

 ENGLISH      中文

The best way of getting to know a painter is through their artwork.

To many, culture plays an important role in the art process. Finding ways to incorporate this can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when you have several interests. So today I’m going to share how I like to add my culture into artwork & I hope it gives you a little boost out of artist block.

For living subjects (including trees, flowers, oceanic life, etc.) you can integrate culturally symbolic elements to their natural patterns, place artifacts by their sides, or even add it to the body of the subject. The size & color are all up to you, as it’s all about what resonates with you during that moment of your life. It’s important to remember that the art we create reflects us at the time it is created.

Adding elements of your culture to your art doesn’t have to be intimidating. There is not “wrong way” or correct formula for combining your lifestyle and culture in paintings. The tips I provided are to help get the ball rolling. You might discover more ways to perfectly blend what you love by applying some to your next pieces!

Make sure to stop by next time for another fun blog post. My YouTube channel will be documenting my journey in video form while also sharing some more art tips. Till next time! :)
